Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the "Family-Hire" or "Parent as Provider" program in New Jersey?
The Family-Hire model allows family members to become paid Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) for their adult loved ones (age 21+) who are eligible for NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) funding. Kindcrest Care acts as the approved agency, providing the necessary training, background checks, and payroll services so you can receive financial compensation for the care you already provide.
Who is eligible to be a paid family caregiver under the NJ DDD?
Eligibility depends on the specific service and your living arrangement. Generally, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins can be hired as DSPs.
-
For Individual Supports and Community Based Supports, caregivers who live in the same household (including parents) are eligible.
-
For Respite Care, the hired family member must reside in a different household than the primary caregiver to ensure the primary caregiver receives a true break.
My family member is turning 21 soon. When should we contact Kindcrest Care?
You should contact us as soon as your loved one completes their NJ CAT assessment and you are assigned a Support Coordinator. We can help guide you through the process of writing your Individualized Service Plan (ISP) to ensure the Family-Hire model is properly integrated into their transition to adulthood.
What is the difference between Individual Supports and Community Based Supports?
-
Individual Supports are primarily provided in the home. They assist the individual with activities of daily living (ADLs), household chores, hygiene, and health-related tasks.
-
Community Based Supports occur outside the home. The focus is on community integration, such as assistance with grocery shopping, attending local events, navigating public transit, or participating in recreational activities.
Does Kindcrest Care offer Supported Employment or Career Planning?
Yes. Our Career Planning services are designed to help individuals with developmental disabilities transition into the workforce. We provide focused, outcomes-driven support to explore career interests, build job readiness skills, write resumes, and develop a customized pathway to meaningful employment.
How do I choose Kindcrest Care as my provider?
If your loved one is already approved for NJ DDD services, simply contact your assigned Support Coordinator and request that Kindcrest Care be added to your Individualized Service Plan (ISP) for your desired services. You can also reach out to our intake team directly, and we will coordinate with your SC on your behalf.
For Support Coordinators (B2B)
What is your referral response time?
We guarantee a 24-hour response time for all referrals. We know SC caseloads are heavy, so we prioritize immediate communication to let you know if we have the capacity to accept the case, preventing any delays in your workflow.
How does Kindcrest Care handle DDD compliance and monthly progress notes?
We are committed to seamless compliance. Our Direct Support Professionals are trained to take detailed, data-driven notes aligned directly with the ISP outcomes. Our administrative team reviews and submits these monthly progress notes directly to Support Coordinators by the 5th of every month.
What is your NJ DDD Medicaid Provider ID?
Our Medicaid Provider ID is [1199447]. We are fully approved to bill for Individual Supports, Community Based Supports, Respite, and Career Planning across all counties in New Jersey.
